Merna Louise Koppedryer, age 83, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter of Henry and Lena (Brinkman) Walters on May 7, 1928, in Aplington, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from the Aplington High School in 1947. On August 14, 1947, Merna Walters was united in marriage with George M. Koppedryer at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following marriage they lived in Mount Vernon, Iowa for six months and then moved back to Aplington on Howard Street where she lived nearly her entire life. Before began their family Merna had worked as a waitress at the Lunch Box in Aplington, was an Aplington phone operator and at Rath Packing. Through the years Merna was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. After her children were older she worked as a cook for 25 years at the Aplington School and retired in May of 1999. Merna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Aplington for 61 years, where she worked as a janitor for 25 years. She enjoyed gardening and especially enjoyed having raspberries. She kept her hands busy with embroidery and doing ceramics. She liked baking and made delicious cinnamon rolls and banana bread. Most importantly was spending time with her family. Merna died Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at the Maple Manor Village in Aplington, Iowa, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George on April 27, 1975; three brothers, Richard, George and Henry; seven sisters, Gertrude Sealman, Swannetta Heffner, Lela Uhlenhopp, Evelyn DeVries, Wilma Reineke, Doris Druvenga, , and also one in infancy. Merna is survived by three sons, Larry (Kathy) Koppedryer of Waverly, Gary (Tammy) Koppedryer of Marion, and Dale (Stacey) Koppedryer of Clarks Grove, MN; three daughters, Connie (Dale) Hollenbeck of Rockford, IL, Carol (Jon) Caspers of Swaledale, and Marcia (Mark) Liebe of Portland, OR; 20 grandchildren, Mark (Michele) Koppedryer, Amy Hollenbeck, Brian (Stephanie) Hollenbeck, Kristi (Eric) Jamison, Emily Hollenbeck, Faye (Dr. Matt) Ralph, Joni Caspers, Ben Koppedryer, David Caspers, Kyle Liebe, Katelyn Liebe, Jenna (Alex) Conway, Kendra Liebe, Samantha Koppedryer, and Stefanie Koppedryer; five great-grandchildren, Trey, Keegan and Jarret Koppedryer, Conner Hollenbeck, and Colton Ralph. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church with burial at the Pleasant View Cemetery both Aplington. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, at the First Presbyterian Church in Aplington, and one hour before services at the church. Read less
