Description	:	Merna Sedy Ferdig, the daughter of Thomas Henry and Lizzie Ann (Van Keuren) Smith, was born June 5, 1925 in Onamia, Minn., and died Tuesday, April 7, 1988 as the result of an auto accident in Van Buren, Ark., at the age of 62 years, 10 months, and 2 days. Mr. and Mrs. Ferdig were returning home from a visit with his brother in Texas. She moved to Schuyler County with her parents as a young girl, and spent the remainder of her life there. Read More	Merna Sedy Ferdig, the daughter of Thomas Henry and Lizzie Ann (Van Keuren) Smith, was born June 5, 1925 in Onamia, Minn., and died Tuesday, April 7, 1988 as the result of an auto accident in Van Buren, Ark., at the age of 62 years, 10 months, and 2 days. Mr. and Mrs. Ferdig were returning home from a visit with his brother in Texas. She moved to Schuyler County with her parents as a young girl, and spent the remainder of her life there. She was united in marriage to Melvin E. Ferdig January 1, 1940, and to this union six sons and eight daughters were born. She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband who remains hospitalized in Arkansas; six sons, Martin Ferdig, Queen City, Charles Ferdig, Glenwood, Marvin Ferdig, Chillicothe, Ia., Steve Ferdig, Keokuk, Ia., Carl Ferdig, Lancaster, and Fred Ferdig, Lancaster; eight daughters, Merdell Long, Queen City, Janet Chuitis, Queen City, Susan Downing, Queen City, Carol Nolan, Memphis, Mo., Lillie Sherman, Lebanon, Mo., Nancy McCallun, Green Rock, Ill., Patty Evans, Anamosa, Ia., and Sandy Robinson, Blue Springs, Mo.; 35 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Beerbower, Oak Hill, W.V., and Mildred Lane, Rock Island, Ill.; one aunt, Martha Cipra, Owatonna, Minn.; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Sunday, April 10, 1988, at Norman Funeral Chapel, Lancaster, with the Rev. James Ingersoll, Unionville, Mo., officiating. Organ selections were played by Maureen Watkins. Bearers were Max Shively, Avery Roberts, Randy Shively, Holly Anderson, Larry Reynolds, and Russell Simbro. Interment was in Arni Memorial Cemetery, Lancaster.
