Beamer, eldest son of Theoakley and Minnie Beamer, was born in Ness County May 4, 1898, and departed this life May 1, 1942, at the age of 43 years, 11 months and 27 days. His father preceded him in death in 1907. Merritt grew to manhood and has spent most of his life in this community. He attended Pink school and Ransom High School. On September 16, 1922, he was united in marriage to Vera Clodfelter of Utica. After their marriage they lived in WaKeeney for five years. Three children were born to this union: Edwin, Edna Mae and Ethel. In 1927 he and his family moved to Colorado where he was the driver of a school bus. In 1935 they moved back to Ransom and since then they have been farming on his mother’s farm northeast of Ransom. He was affiliated with the IOOF Lodge and his many deeds of kindness and neighborly acts showed his adherence to its principles. He was a kind and loving husband and father and was a devoted son to his mother who made her home with him. He was favorably known to all of his neighbors and friends for his honesty and willingness to help when help was needed. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife and three children, his mother, two brothers, E.D. Beamer of Monte Vista, Colo., and Herman Beamer of Barewell, Kentucky, an uncle, Dave Cheney, and other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Monday afternoon with Rev. McAllister in charge. A mixed quartet, Drucilla Van Winkle, Nathalie Combest, Mr. Clark and Mr. Bradshaw, sang two numbers. Drucilla and Nathalie sang a duet, “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere”. Burial was made in the Ransom cemetery with John Aeby in charge. Ness Co. News, May 14, 1942
