Description	:	HEDDEN, MERRITT MINOR—Merritt Minor Hedden, son of Theodore and Eva Hedden, was born at the farm home near Shickley, Neb., on July 23, 1891, and died on March 26, 1978, at the Fillmore County Hospital after a short illness, at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 3 days. Read More	HEDDEN, MERRITT MINOR—Merritt Minor Hedden, son of Theodore and Eva Hedden, was born at the farm home near Shickley, Neb., on July 23, 1891, and died on March 26, 1978, at the Fillmore County Hospital after a short illness, at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 3 days. He grew up in the Shickley area and attended Shickley high school and the University of Nebraska. He enlisted in the United States Army during the First World War, and upon his return from France was discharged from service June 29, 1919. On May 23, 1923, he was united in marriage to Helen Margaret Schelkopf of Shickley. To this union were born a son Merritt Eugene, and a daughter, Helen Carol. Merritt farmed near Harvard and Shickley until 1945, when he moved to Geneva to take over duties as a star mail route carrier. He retired in 1960, and spent his remaining years in Geneva. He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers, Earl, Glenn and Finis, and an infant sister. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Merritt and Lorene Hedden; a daughter and son-in-law, John and Helen Carol Knowles; two brothers, Ronzo of Geneva and Orve of Wooster, O.; six grandchildren, Kimberly Hedden Compton, Valerie Hedden, Merritt Geofrey Hedden, Elizabeth Knowles, Dorinda Knowles and John Merritt Knowles, and many friends. Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer & Son funeral home in Geneva at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 30, 1978. Music consisted of “The Old Rugged Cross”, “How Great Thou Art” and “What A Friend” with Mrs. Norval Lomax organist. Pallbearers were Mitch Hedden, Ted Hedden, Joseph E., Robert M., Stanley and Sterling Schelkopf. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 6 April 1978 page 5.
