She was born November 6, 1941, in rural Eldon to Henry "Pete" and Gwendolene Troxel Fiedler. She married Ellis Cary on August 7, 1960, at Miller Chapel Church. Read More	Mertic Mary Cary, 71, of Ottumwa, died at 8:40 p.m. August 9, 2013, at Hospice House in Ottumwa. She was born November 6, 1941, in rural Eldon to Henry "Pete" and Gwendolene Troxel Fiedler. She married Ellis Cary on August 7, 1960, at Miller Chapel Church. He preceded her in death on August 30, 2001. A resident of rural Ottumwa most of her life, she had worked as a tax preparer and instructor for H&R Block for over 30 years. Mertic was a member of Blakesburg Christian Church, where she was the pianist and organist for many years and also served as a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed crocheting, going to her grandchildren's activities and spending time with friends and family. Surviving are two daughters, three sons, 10 grandchildren, three brothers and three sisters, She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Terrie Fiedler. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Ray Lyon officiating. Burial will be in Fiedler Cemetery near Floris. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blakesburg Christian Church or Hospice serving Wapello and Davis Counties, 927 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Ottumwa, Iowa 52501.
