Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Clear Lake, SD. Pallbearers will be Drew Strohschein, Kevin Strohschein, Todd Strohschein, Kurt Strohschein, Shawn Strohschein and Dexter Strohschein. Merton was born on April 14, 1928 in Clear Lake, SD. After graduating from Clear Lake High School in 1946, he joined the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany. His specialty was Radar and Guided Missile Repair. After being Honorably Discharged he attended Television Repair School in San Diego, CA. When he returned to Clear Lake he opened up Strohschein's TV and Radio Repair Shop in Clear Lake. On April 14, 1958 he was united in marriage to Viola Mae Tekrony. He was known throughout Brookings, Deuel and Hamlin counties as the TV Repairman. Viola passed away on April 23, 1986. Merton was united in marriage to Darlene Buchholtz on February 3, 1987. Following their marriage they continued to live in Clear Lake. Merton continued as a TV Repairman until technology changed and the cost of test equipment got to be too expensive. He then started driving cement truck for his cousin Oscar Bren (Mobile Concrete) until his cancer forced him to retire. He entered the Deuel County Good Samaritan Center on September 11, 2008 where he died after a long battle with cancer on September 16, 2008 at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 2 days. Merton was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Clear Lake and the Charles Curry American Legion Post #49. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and coffee time with his friends. He loved to visit with his children and grandchildren. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Darlene Strohschein of Clear Lake, SD; eight sons: Drew of Virginia Beach, VA, Kevin of Chesapeake, VA, Todd (Keri) of Dallas, TX, Kurt (Shantte) of Oak Harbor, WA, Shawn (Ann) of Austin, TX; Dallas (Fay) Buchholtz of Clear Lake, SD, Jack (Lori) Buchholtz of Clear Lake, SD and Rob Buchholtz of Madison, SD; one daughter Sue (Wayne) Benck of Clear Lake, SD; eighteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Keith (Gail) Strohschein of Kalispell, MT, one sister, Marilyn (Gilmer) Doop of Bruce, SD and several nieces and nephews. Merton is preceded in death by his first wife, Viola, parents and two brothers.
