Description	:	M.J. "Vic" Stone was born January 3, 1911, near Edgewood to Ernest and Anna (Stone) Stone. He graduated from Edgewood High School in 1927. He was united in marriage to Marian Wilson on January 11, 1932, in Galena, IL. One son was born to this union. After their marriage, Vic cut and sold wood for fence posts and firewood. "Vic" Stone was born January 3, 1911, near Edgewood to Ernest and Anna (Stone) Stone. He graduated from Edgewood High School in 1927. He was united in marriage to Marian Wilson on January 11, 1932, in Galena, IL. One son was born to this union. After their marriage, Vic cut and sold wood for fence posts and firewood. He also mowed the Edgewood Cemetery. At this time he bought a truck and gravel box and hauled gravel around this area. They moved to western Iowa, where he hauled gravel and power poles for Evans Construction of Early, Iowa. In 1942, he went to Alaska for several months with a private contractor from Jefferson, IA to work on the Al-Can Highway. In 1943, he returned to Edgewood to enlist in the US Navy. After "boot camp" he boarded the USS Mellette which took him to places like Iwo Jima, Saipan, Okinawa, TulagiI and finally to Tokyo Bay. He spent thirteen months on board the ship before going into partnership with Charley Jacobs graveling roads. In the summer of 1948, he went to work for Jacobs & Doyle as a construction foreman building power lines in western Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas until 1950, when he moved back to Edgewood. At that time he and his brother, Ernest Jr., purchased the DX Station and sold it about a year later. Then Charley Jacobs sold Vic half interest in Gates Hardware that became Livingston & Stone Hardware and Implement until he and Paul Livingston split the business in 1964 into Livingston Implement and Stone's Hardware & Pump. Vic remained there until 1991, when his son Larry took over. Vic and Marian were there every day until Larry sold it in 2001. Vic was a member of the Masonic Lodge for sixty-three years and the Knights of Pythias for over fifty years. He died Saturday morning, April 28, 2007, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home, following a brief illness. Survivors included his wife, Marian Stone, Edgewood; his son, two grandchildren, and five great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ernest Stone Jr. and a sister, Mildred Homewood.
