No particulars of the accident have been received. The Considines formerly lived in this community. John Considine, the father of the two who were killed Sunday, died at Halstead about a month ago and his body was brought to Burlington for interment. [The Daily Republican (Burlington, Kansas) - Monday, August 14, 1922] DOUBLE FUNERAL AT CATHOLIC CHURCH A double funeral for Miss Mary Considine and Michael Considine of Halstead was held at the Catholic church in Burlington Wednesday morning with Requiem High mass by Father Simon of Hartford. There was a large attendance and the service was a very impressive one. Miss Considine and her brother were killed by a Santa Fe train near their home, 7 miles northwest of Halstead last Sunday morning, August 13, 1922 while on their way to church, when the Ford car in which they were riding was struck by a fast train. They were carried in the car for about half a mile up the track before the train could stop, and were instantly killed, many bones being broken by the crash. The car also was demolished. The engine struck the center of the automobile. Their bodies were laid to rest in Mt. Calvary, the Catholic cemetery at Burlington, beside the body of their father. Relatives here for the funeral were their mother, Mrs. Anna Considine and daughters Catherine, Anna Margaret and Jennie Rose and son Johnnie Considine, all of Halstead; their brother Jimmie Considine and family of Columbia City, Ind.; their sister, Mrs. Earl G. Bardwell of Great Bend, Kans.; their cousins, Mrs. M. V. McLaughlin of Lakin, Kan., and Joseph Steffen of Halstead, and their uncles, John T. Burke of Dubuque, Ia., and John Schneider of Kansas City, Mo. Their uncles Anthony, Francis and Jake Schneider of Burlington drove to Halstead as soon as word of the accident was received here, and returned with them for the funeral.
