Description	:	Michael Ihla February 26, 2011 Michael Ihla, age 56 of Bismarck formerly of Bottineau, died Saturday at a Bismarck hospital. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 pm at the Grace Lutheran Brethren Church in Bottineau. Michael Ihla, a son of Melvin and Helen (Guttu) Ihla, was born on November 19, 1954 at Bottineau. He was reared on the family farm near Carbury and later graduated from Souris High School. Read More	Michael Ihla February 26, 2011 Michael Ihla, age 56 of Bismarck formerly of Bottineau, died Saturday at a Bismarck hospital. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 pm at the Grace Lutheran Brethren Church in Bottineau. Michael Ihla, a son of Melvin and Helen (Guttu) Ihla, was born on November 19, 1954 at Bottineau. He was reared on the family farm near Carbury and later graduated from Souris High School. Following graduation, he stayed on the farm and took over the farming operation when his father retired. On August 2, 1982, he married Shirley Helgeson at Bottineau. They stayed on the farm until 1987 when they moved to Minot. Michael attended Minot State University and earned his Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. He worked at the North Dakota Boys Ranch, Pepsi Bottling and Minot International Airport. He later worked as a correctional officer at the James River Correction Center in Jamestown and the Ward County Jail in Minot. They later moved to Bismarck where he worked at the North Dakota State Penitentiary until 2008 when he retired due to health reasons. He was a member of the Turtle Mountain Lutheran Church where he served on the church council for a time. Michael passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at a Bismarck hospital. He is survived by his wife Shirley of Bismarck; daughters, Ashley Amanda Janssen (Joshua) and Heather Michelle Ihla of Bismarck; grandchildren, Jennea and Theodore Janssen; mother, Helen Ihla of Bottineau; brothers, John Ihla (Audrey) of Bottineau and David Ihla (Mary) of Blaine, MN; sister, Barb Olson (Curt) of Rugby and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin and numerous aunts and uncles. Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.
