June 19, 1989 - Carroll Times - Mass of the Christian Burial for Michael Maystadt, Jr. will be celebrated on Wednesday. June 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. Mr. Maystadt, 59, died Sunday, June 19, 1989, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. The Rev. Frank Nemmers will officiate at the Mass. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors by the Maurice Dunn American Legion Post of Carroll. Casket bearers will be Don Tigges, Ken Auen, Don Schechlnger, Kenny Bromert, Jack Thein, and Leonard Wieland. Lector will be Orville Bierl. Gift bearers will be Mary Kay and Rick Wathen. Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. Tuesday the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Rosaries will be recited Tuesday at 3 p.m. and by St. Lawrence Parish at 8 p.m. Mr. Maystadt was born Jan. 3, 1930, at Carroll, the son of Michael and Louise (Bernholtz) Maystadt. He spent his younger years in Carroll where he graduated from Carroll High School. He attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake until January 1951, when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served during the Korean War aboard the USS Philippine Sea and was honorably discharged in 1954. On Sept. 8, 1955, he was married to Jacqueline Lambert at St. Joseph Church in Carroll by Msgr. P.T. Lynch. The couple lived in Mankato, Minn., where Mr. Maystadt was employed by the R.E.A. Express Company. In 1971, the couple returned to Carroll where Mr. Maystadt worked for the City of Carroll and later farmed. He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll and the Parish Men's Club. He was also a member of the Maurice Dunn American Legion Post 7 of Carroll. Mr. Maystadt is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, of Carroll; four sons: Scott Maystadt and his wife, Melody, of Tacoma, Wash.; Michael Maystadt III and his fiance, Mary Lumsden; James Maystadt and Thomas Maystadt, all of Carroll; one daughter, Carrie Hamack of Omaha, Neb.; three grandchildren, Steven Harnack and Damian and Chantal Maystadt; one brother, Elmer Maystadt and his wife, Sally, of Des Moines; two sisters, Ethel (Mrs. Bob) Rohner and Norma (Mrs. Bernard) Arnold, both of San Diego, Calif.; and his mother-in-law, Arlowine Jenkins of Carroll. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sons: Matthew and Mark, in infancy. Mr Maystadt is also survived by three brothers and one sister: Dr Henry Maystadt and Dr John Maystadt Brussels, Belgium; Dr Jacob Maystadt and Miss Mary Maystadt. Andernoch Am Rhine, Germany. Mr. Maystadt was of the Catholic faith, having joined St. Mary Magdalen Church in Omaha Aug. 15, 1889. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church here and also the Holy Name Society of the parish. Mr. Maystadt's children from other cities who were here when he passed away are Mrs. Theodore Miller of Norman, Neb., who arrived last night; Mrs. Walter Goecke of Red Oak and Mrs. B.J. Olberding of Denison. Mrs. Miller's children, LaVerne, Josephine and Jeanette, are also here. Michael J. Maystadt, who recently went to Phoenix, Ariz., took the plane at Phoenix at 2 o'clock this afternoon to return. John and Henry Maystadt of Chicago and Frances of Ridgeway are also on their way home. Mrs. Maystadt, who has been ill since last summer when she suffered a stroke, is being taken to the hospital this evening. Her condition remains about the same.
