Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown with visitation Tuesday, August 5 from 4-7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Honorary Groups will be his Maple Street Diner coffee group and his plumber buddies. Michael Karlyle Day, the son of Walter and Emma Rose (Gates) Day, was born October 23, 1942 at Pierce, Washington. He grew up in Henry, South Dakota, and graduated from Henry High School. After graduation, Mike enlisted in the United States Army on May 31, 1960. He was assigned to the Army Security Agency and was stationed at Herzo Base in Germany, serving as a crypto operator during the Cold War. He was honorably discharged May 15, 1963 and returned to Henry where he worked for his father at Day Excavating. Mike married Linda Rae Lauseng February 9, 1964 in Watertown, South Dakota. The couple later moved to Watertown where he then started Day Plumbing in 1977. He retired in October 2008 due to ill health. Mike enjoyed woodworking and fishing, but he especially loved his grandkids and great grandkids. Mike is survived by his wife, Linda of Watertown; his children, Michael (Dianne) Day and Shannon (Sandra) Day and his siblings, W. Gail (Karyl) Day, Al (Janice) and. Robert (Marlyn) Day of Watertown, SD, Judy (Butch) Kaaz and Gene (Cindy) Day of Watertown, SD; 13 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Shelly Ann Cordell; and brother, John “Jack”
