Read More	Hays Daily News; Hays, Ellis County, Kansas; Monday, June 27, 1932, Page 4: MICHAEL LEIKER, OLD MUNJOR SETTLER, DIES One of First Groups to Come Here from Russia in 1876--Funeral Services Wednesday Michael Leiker, 83, one of the oldest residents of Munjor and one of the first settlers of that community, died this morning at 3:15 o'clock at his farm home near Munjor. He had been ill for two weeks. Mr. Leiker was one of the pioneer residents of the county and one of the group which first came from Obermonjour, Russia, to settle at Munjor in 1876. A son said today he believed there is only one man in Munjor older than his father. According to a history of German-Russian settlements published in 1926, the founders of Munjor formed part of the largest expedition of emigrants to forsake the empire of the Czars in search of greater freedom and opportunity in the United States. The year of their arrival they purchased Section 25 and organized the Munjor Land Company, which in 1882 was superseded by an incorporated organization, the Munjor Town and Grazing Company, which the history says was formed at the suggestion of John Schlyer of Hays. Michael Leiker is named in the history as one of the first group to come here. In addition to the families arriving in 1876, others came in 1878. Besides the widow, nine children survive Mr. Leiker. They are Anton, of Antonino; Peter, Alex and John, of Munjor; Mrs. Peter Mermis [Mary Ann], Gorham; Mrs. Barbara Younger, Munjor; Mrs. Joseph Unrein [Clara], Munjor; Mrs. Jacob Gabel [Agatha], Great Bend; and Mrs. Martin Pfannenstiel [Catherine], Munjor.
