Michael was baptized in the Catholic Church in Karlshausen on May 18, 1825. Michael married Margaretha Wagner on March 16, 1852. Margaretha was the daughter of Gregoril Wagner and Margarethae Hartz. Michael and Margaret immigrated to America around the year 1850. An 1860 Census shows the family living in North Collins, New York with 4 children (Mary, John, Margaret & Jacob. An 1870 US Census shows the Mike (age 47) and Margett Myres' (age 43) family living in Ottumwa, Iowa with 8 children (Mary (age 16), John (age 13 born in 1857), Margaret (age 11), Jacob (age 9 born in 1861), Sarah (age 8), Mathew (age 6 born in 1865), George (age 9 born in 1868) and Mary (age 0 born in 1870) all born in New York. An 1880 US Census lists Michael and Margaret Miers living in Ottumwa with children: John, Jacob, Renah, Martha, George and Mary). An 1885 US Census lists Michael Mier (age 60) living with 5 children: Jacob, Mat, George, Mary. It appears Margaret died between 1880 and 1885. Michael and Margaret's following 4 boys and their wives are buried in Calvary Cemetery: John (1857-1923) married to Joanna Enoch in 1881, Jacob (1861-1957) married to Anna Mott in 1886, Matt (1865-1936) married to Elizabeth Ruffing in 1886, George (1867-1938) married to Margaret Mott in 1890. Daughter Rene (Sarah?) Meyers born in 1864-5 married in 1883 to C.H. Strang born in 1856 in Illinois. Daughter Mary born in 1870 married Jacob Frank. The 1885 Census from Ottumwa, Iowa was the last time Michael was mentioned. It is presumed he may have died between 1888-1890. Those details are currently lacking. I have read a copy of his will dated in 1888 and that was being carried out in September of 1888. The will was titled Michael Mier but it was signed with the following spelling of his name "Michael Myers". Michael appears to have passed away in the summer of 1888. It mentioned in the will of instructions to purchase a plot in the Catholic Cemetery (Calvary Cemetery?) in Ottumwa where he wished to be buried along side his wife.
