Description	:	Michael Stephen French (Frenchie) passed away in Billings, on Feb. 14, 2013, at the age of 46, from a heart attack. He was born in Malta, Mont., on Nov. 3, 1966. At the age of five, Michael was initiated into the Kiowa Gourd Clan by his grandpa Jacob and great-grandparents Jane and Stephen Ahtone. He graduated from Billings Senior High in 1985. Read More	Michael Stephen French (Frenchie) passed away in Billings, on Feb. 14, 2013, at the age of 46, from a heart attack. He was born in Malta, Mont., on Nov. 3, 1966. At the age of five, Michael was initiated into the Kiowa Gourd Clan by his grandpa Jacob and great-grandparents Jane and Stephen Ahtone. He graduated from Billings Senior High in 1985. He attended OU in Norman, Okla., and returned to Billings to complete his Bachelor’s degree in 1996 at Eastern Montana College. Michael married Nixie Wilcoxon in 1991 and they became the parents of two children. In 1996, he and his family moved to Salt Lake City where he pursued his Master’s degree in Social Services. He practiced his counseling skills at Yellowstone Boys Home in Billings and as a Social Service counselor in Wolf Point. Michael’s long love for the hospitality business led him to Mustang Tour Ice, the Eagle Nest Lounge, Granary, The Winner’s Circle, 1145 Club and Billings Deaconess Hospital. In 2007, he and his mother became owner/operators of the Gateway on Fort Peck Lake. Owning his own bar was a life-long dream and obtaining this goal was a tremendous milestone. The Gateway was Michael’s pride and joy and he made countless new friends. Tragically, the Gateway burned in October 2011. Michael later returned to Deaconess Hospital as a kitchen supervisor. He is survived by his father Alden French of Billings; his son Steven of Glasgow; his daughter Paris of Dickinson, N.D.; and his former wife Nixie Gagne of Glasgow, Mont. He is also survived by his grandfather Alvida French and aunts, uncles and cousins of Scobey, Mont., and Mountain View, Okla., where he attended several Powwows of the Kiowa Tribe. Michael is lovingly remembered by his numerous classmates and friends of the Senior High Class of 1985. Michael was a loyal and devoted friend and always the life of the party. Michael is predeceased by his sister Stephaine French and mother Almeta Levon French of Billings. Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cremation & Funeral Gallery. Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at St. Bernard’s Parish. --Billings Gazette, Feb. 17, 2013
