Read More	Son of Gerald Arthur Burch and Frances Horner Michael Thomas Burch, beloved son, brother, husband, father and friend, surrounded by his family, left us peacefully to watch over us from above on Wednesday May, 2, 2007. Mike was born to Frances and Gerald Burch on March 6, 1959, in Kalispell. He spent his early childhood in Eureka, until after the passing of his father, Gerald. Frances, Mike and his little brother Jerry moved to the Milltown area where she later met and married Melvin Wartenbee. Mike was a wildlife artist from the beginning, drawing elk on his mother's antique oak dresser and at Bonner school. The school janitor provided Mike with a personal roll of paper to reduce the amount of time he spent Burch scrubbing Mike's artwork off the desk each night. Mike graduated from Sentinel High School in Missoula, and attended the University of Montana as an art major until hunting season rolled around and he left to explore the mountains he enjoyed all his life. Mike followed in the footsteps of his father, Gerald, by entering the Army as an MP and served for three years in Germany. When Mike was in high school, love of art and law enforcement came together when he helped start the Missoula County Sheriff's Cadet Program and designed the badge that the cadets still wear today. After the military, Mike became a reserve deputy, later worked as a federal security guard at the federal building, was a court security officer with the Marshall's Service and ultimately became an officer at the new Missoula Detention Center. Mike was known best for his caring, giving nature. He was a champion of those less fortunate and was continually helping anyone in need, giving of both himself and his artwork. He never walked away without trying to make things right for others, no matter the cost to him. Mike is now with his father and grandparents, and will continue to watch over his mom, Frances; dad, Mel; brother, Jerry; sisters, Edna (Brian) Kallis and Sara (Kevin) Basolo; his wife, Celine; and his children that he loved so very much and was so proud of, David, Elise, Shawn and Joe. There are also his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and more friends than anyone could begin imagine. He continues his life through the memories in our hearts. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, in Bonner, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Pastor Jean Larson will preside over the honor of helping family and friends give Mike into God's care and renew the memories we share of his special life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Montana Advocacy Program, www.mtadv.org.
