Milbert passed away Monday, February 8, 2010 at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen. Milbert was born in Eureka, SD on June 26, 1915 to Adolph and Barbara (Klooz) Koerner. He attended rural school and worked on his parent's farm near Eureka. Milbert married Alma Walth on June 12, 1938 in Eureka, SD. They were united in marriage for 66 years until her death in 2004. They began their farming career near the Hillsview-Hosmer area and later moved to a farm near Leola. They became part of the community and farmed for many years. He was a good manager along with his wife Alma as his partner, and worked hard during this time. Their social lives were mostly the events at St. James Lutheran Church, Saturday nights visiting friends in the small town of Leola and relatives and friends coming to visit on the farm. As the children began to attend high school they took time to enjoy all of the activities. They moved to Aberdeen for retirement in 1974 and Milbert then began working at Miller-Huebl Funeral Home for several years. They spent many years wintering in Harlengen, TX, and met many new friends who they enjoyed visiting during the summer. They loved to pack their travel trailer and explore the country. Bridge games were a highlight for many evenings or afternoon. Milbert enjoyed spending time with family and his grandchildren at family gatherings. He was a great storyteller and loved to talk about his past experiences. He had an endearing personality and many friends who enjoyed his sense of humor. He enjoyed living at Davis Court for 13 years and the Senior Center was a daily event and kept him busy. In the last weeks, he became special to many of the employees at Bethesda. Preceding Milbert in death are his wife Alma, his parents, one son Lynn, one grandson and his son-in-law Harley Hoffman. Grateful to have shared Milbert's life are his daughter, Sharlene Hoffman of Aberdeen, his grandchildren, Blake (Marcia) Hoffman, Jon (Carla) Hoffman, Gregory (Leanne) Hoffman, Tim (Lori) Hoffman, Monica (Iver) Gibbs, Levi, Jesse, Cody, Caleb, Austin, Mindi, Andri and Tonisha Koerner, and eight great grandchildren. One brother Ray Koerner of California.
