Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Ave., with Rev. Karl Hester officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Monday at Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Alma Esther Walth was born May 16, 1919, near Hosmer, S.D., to John and Magdeline Walth. She attended rural country school near Hosmer. She married Milbert R. Koerner on June 12, 1938, near Leola, S.D. They farmed near the Hillsview-Hosmer area and later moved to a farm near Leola, where they farmed for many years. During their marriage she was a partner in the hard work on the farm. They retired and moved to Aberdeen in 1972. Because of her health, she spent the past several years in nursing care facilities. Alma was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she was involved in many of the church activities. She was also a member of various clubs and organizations. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and being with family and friends. She especially enjoyed traveling and was the Treasurer of the Tourist Club. Traveling south to Texas and being with friends there was an enjoyable time in retirement. Alma also loved spending time with her family, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren and were always in her thoughts and prayers. She very much enjoyed family gatherings. While residing in the nursing facilities she showed her appreciation for the people that cared for her with smiles and hugs. In the past years, her greatest joy was to be with her husband and spend time with him. Survivors include her husband, Milbert of Aberdeen; one daughter, Sharlene Hoffman of Aberdeen; one sister, Viola Mohr of Roscoe, S.D.; thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Lynn W. Koerner; one son-in-law, Harley Hoffman; one sister, Gertrude Mohr; one brother, Dr. Oscar Walth and one grandson, Glen Charles Hoffman. Casket bearers will be Levi Koerner, Jesse Koerner, Cody Koerner, and Caleb Koerner. Published in the Aberdeen News on 12/13/2004.
