Description	:	Milbre V. Douglass died at his home in West College street last evening, July 20th, at 9 o'clock, in the 81st year of his age. Mr. Douglass had been in ill health for a long time, but was dangerously ill only a few weeks. Mr. Douglass was a native of this county, but in his young manhood lived for several years in Allegheny county in what was then Mansfield, now Carnegie. Douglass died at his home in West College street last evening, July 20th, at 9 o'clock, in the 81st year of his age. Mr. Douglass had been in ill health for a long time, but was dangerously ill only a few weeks. Mr. Douglass was a native of this county, but in his young manhood lived for several years in Allegheny county in what was then Mansfield, now Carnegie. Many years ago, however, he purchased and moved to a farm in Cecil township, about two miles northeast of Canonsburg, where he continued to reside until about 17 years ago when he moved to Canonsburg where he spent the remainder of his life. Mr. Douglass in early manhood was married to Miss Sarah McNary, who survives him. He is also survived by two daughters, one of these, Mary, is the wife of James Stevens, who lives near Indianapolis, Ind. They have two children, Mary and James. The other daughter, Miss Margaret, resides at home. Mr. Douglass is also survived by the following brothers: Thompson, who lives at Sturgeon, Allegheny county; Reed Douglass, of Woodville, and William of Carnegie. Mr. Douglass served three years in the Union army as a member of Company F, 67th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was taken a prisoner and for a considerable period was confined in Libby prison. While in prison he suffered from an attack of fever which settled in his leg. Two other brothers were also soldiers - Alexander, who lost his life at Spottsylvania, and Thompson, who survives and lives at Sturgeon. The latter was a member of the 148th Pennsylvania Infantry. M.V. Douglass was a man of quiet disposition. He was also a man of intelligence, and of strong character. In politics he was long a Republican but in recent years was an Independent and voted for the men and measures in which he believed, regardless of party ties. He was the friend of clean government, and opposed to bosses and bossism. Mr. Douglass was long a member of the Chartiers United Presbyterian Church and faithful in attendance upon the services as long as his health permitted. The funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 in the Chartiers United Presbyterian Church and will be conducted by the pastor, Dr. W.P. Aikin. The interment will be in Oak Spring cemetery.
