Mildred Anna Mellenbach, daughter of Mary (Abler) and Nick Mellenbach, was born October 16, 1915 at Hoven. She was raised in Hoven and attended St. Anthony's Parochial School. She then boarded with an aunt in Aberdeen, SD, where she attended high school. Mildred then earned her teaching certificate from Northern State Teacher's College in Aberdeen. She taught at Rural Schools near Hoven and also at Eden, SD. She married William Kaiser at Hoven on June 4, 1943. They farmed just east of Hoven until William's death on October 12, 1975. After that, Mildred continued living in Hoven and wintered in Yuma, AZ. through 2003. In September 2003, she moved to the Davis Court Apartments in Aberdeen and in December 2003 she relocated to the Holy Infant Hospital in Hoven. She had lived at the Bowdle Nursing Home since June 2010. She belonged to St. Anthony's Catholic Church, St. Anthony's Altar Society, and the Hoven Senior Center. Her hobbies included playing cards, knitting, crocheting, and working puzzle books. Mrs. Kaiser is survived by 1 son—Durran Kaiser of Hoven; 1 sister—Regina Hericks of Gettysburg, SD; 2 grandchildren—Michael (Amanda) Kaiser of Hoven and Tanya (John) Berndt of Aberdeen, and 3 great grandchildren—Tyler and Mason Berndt and Jordan Kaiser. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter-in-law (Sandra Kaiser), 1 brother (Leon) and 1 sister (Leonella Nelson). Honorary bearers will be the Holy Infant Hospital Staff and the Bowdle Nursing Home Staff. Casketbearers will be Don Hericks and Dick Hericks of Gettysburg, Michael Kaiser and Kurt Kaiser of Hoven, Ken Hericks of Pierre, SD, and John Berndt of Aberdeen. Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, is in charge of arrangements.
