Description	:	Obituary ..Mildred Anna (Vannaman) Turner was the second child born to Bertie R. Vannaman and Hazel Pearl (Stephens) Vannaman on June 8, 1913. She was born on a farm northwest of Kiowa (Barber County) Kansas. She attended the Mound Center country school, then graduated from Kiowa High School with the class of 1932. ..She was united in marriage to John Otto Turner on May 14, 1935, in Alva Oklahoma. She was born on a farm northwest of Kiowa (Barber County) Kansas. She attended the Mound Center country school, then graduated from Kiowa High School with the class of 1932. ..She was united in marriage to John Otto Turner on May 14, 1935, in Alva Oklahoma. To this union were born three children -- Rosalyn Joy, John Dee, and Lonnie Ray. The Turner family lived in Kiowa near Hardtner, Kansas then Capron, Oklahoma. John O. Turner passed away on April 19, 1956 at Capron. Following his death "Millie" as she was affectionately known by friends and family, was the school cook at Capron for twenty years until the school closed in 1976. ..After the closing of the school she began being a care giver, staying with several elderly people in Kiowa, Medicine Lodge, Cherokee and Alva. Among those she stayed with were Minnie Elmore and her daughter Thelma. Millie and Thelma became close friends. Millie moved to Alva in the Elmore's house after Thelma was married to Phil Ruch. ..It was after her move to Alva that she started going to the Senior Citizens, which was her extended family. She attended regularly, baking pies and cooking chicken for the noodle dinners. ..She will be remembered by many for her beautiful embroidery work. She loved to sing with the "Songbirds" at the senior citizens. She suffered a stroke on December 11, 1998. Millie loved to raise flowers and also vegetables. She loved to cook and made many hot rolls for the school kids; her doughnuts were famous in the community. ..Millie was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Hazel Vannaman in 1970, her sisters Arlena Ruth Gillig in 1944 and Velma Ellen Pro in 1970, her brother Oliver Vannaman in 1993, also a grand-daughter Kathleen Joy Gray in 1966. Millie is survived by her daughter Rosalyn Joy and her husband Olen Gray of Capron, son John D. Turner and his wife Linda of LaVernia, Texas, son Lonnie R. Turner and his wife Sue of Yukon, Oklahoma, her brother Cecil Vannaman and his wife Rosie of Kiowa, Kansas, sister Myrtle Schwanz and her husband Leroy of Gresham, Oregon. ..Grandma Millie was proud of her eight grandchildren who include Steven Brent Gray, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Tommy Olen Gray and his wife Shirley of Wellington, Ks; Danny L. Gray and his wife Cheryl of Enid, Okla; Debra (Gray) Ferrell and her husband Tony of Medford, Okla.; John Sterling Turner and his wife Kasey of Bay Town, TX; Kelly Dean Turner and his wife Diane of San Antonio, TX; Ryan Ray Turner and his wife Jenn of Edmond, Okla; and Justin Brent Turner of Yukon, Okla. ..She has fourteen great grandchildren Jocelyn Marie Gray, Watkinsville, Ga, Danill Brookshire of Wellington KS, Jenny Brookshire of Wichita, KS., Mathew Olen Gray, Jacob Thomas Gray, Travis Robert Gray all of Wellington, KS., Jolene Ashley Jacobs, Joelle Rebecca Jacobs, Janie Renae Jacobs, and Millie Ann Marie Ferrell all of Medford, Okla., Tessa Ella Roseann Coffey of Hutchinson, Ks., Amanda Nicole Ferrell and Christofer Loyd Ferrell of Kalispell, Montana and the newest great grandchild is Madison Leia Turner of Edmund, Okla. ..Grandma Millie had infant twin great grandsons born Nov. 4, 1999 at Enid, Okla. Daniel Jordan Gray and Joshua David Gray passed away at Childrens Hospital in Oklahoma City on the morning of Nov. 5, 1999. ..Services for Mildred will be at the Kiowa United Methodist Church on Tuesday November 9, 1999 at 2:00 with the concluding service at the Riverview Cemetery in Kiowa. The Reverent Jan McDaniel will be officiating. Visitation hours will be Monday 9:00 AM-8:00 PM and Tuesday 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. Memorials made be given to the Capron United Methodist Church. ..Services under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home, Kiowa, Kansas.
