Description	:	Mildred Doris Miller was born May 4th, 1920 and went to be with the Lord on August 8th, 2011. She was born in Gordon, Nebraska to Sherman & Mary(Johnson) Nielson. Mildred was raised on a homesteaded ranch in the Nebraska sandhills, north of Ashby. She rode a horse to the one room school house in her youth. Read More	Mildred Doris Miller was born May 4th, 1920 and went to be with the Lord on August 8th, 2011. She was born in Gordon, Nebraska to Sherman & Mary(Johnson) Nielson. Mildred was raised on a homesteaded ranch in the Nebraska sandhills, north of Ashby. She rode a horse to the one room school house in her youth. Mildred graduated from Alliance, Nebraska High School & attended the Grand Island Business College. There were many places she called home: Alliance, Grand Island, Ashby, & Ogallala in Nebraska. Seibert, Flagler, Arriba, Denver, Limon, & Colorado Springs in Colorado. She lived in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Mildred had several occupations during her lifetime. She cooked on a ranch, was a cook for the Flagler school & lived on a train while cooking for the crew. Mildred cleaned houses & took in laundry from wheat harvesters in the summer when she lived in Seibert, Colorado. She worked as a nurse's aide in the Limon,CO nursing home and enjoyed talking with their residents & helping them. Later in life, she carded buttons at JHB Buttons in Denver, Colorado. She developed a passion for collecting buttons and joined the state button club. She enjoyed making button displays & making jewelry from her buttons. Other hobbies included playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, gardening, & collecting thimbles. Mildred married George Stegge in St. Paul, Nebraska in 1940. George passed away in 1947 after they were divorced. She married Fred Golden in 1947 & divorced him in 1951. Mildred married Gerald Miller in Laramine, Wyoming in 1952 & divorced in the mid 1970's. Two daughters were born to this union: Marlene Elaine & Jo Ann (William) Clark. Mildred was blessed with a grandson, Beau Justin Cowan of Anthem, Arizona, & a great-grandson, Dustin Jerome Cowan. Her brother, Dale (Levada) Nielson farms outside of Chapman, Nebraska. She has many nieces and nephews. Mildred was preceded in death by her two older brothers, Paul & John Nielson and her daughter, Marlene. A memorial service was held Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Brenner Funeral Home in Akron. Inurnment followed at Otis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Flagler, Colorado Community Ambulance Fund in memory of Mildred Miller.
