Description	:	MRS. MILDRED HARRIET (COOPER) LAQUA beloved wife of the late William Benjamin Laqua, passed away peacefully at the Bow Island Hospital on June 9, 1995, at the age of 90 years. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Bill and Louise Laqua of Kipp,Charles and Lylla Laqua of Foremost, Joyce and Victor O'Connell of Parkhill, Ontario, and Bob and Lilian Laqua of Cockran; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great- grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Lionel, and two sisters-in-law: Eleanor Swallow of Lethbridge and Amelia Wang of Bow Island. Besides her loving husband,Bill, Mildred was predeceased by four brothers: John. Ray. Frank and Bill; two sisters: Gertrude Maddaugh and Eva Bird; and one grandson, Lyle Laqua. Mildred was born in Berlin, Oklahoma in 1905 and moved to Warner with her family in 1910. She was married to William Laqua December 28, 1924 and farmed at Florann where Mildred operated the post office for some 20 years. Mildred moved to Lethbridge after Bill passed away in 1965. She was instrumental in starting the Golden Mile Drop-in Centre where she was very active for many years. She was involved extensively as well and loved to camp. She was an avid sports fan, baseball and hockey especially. Mildred and Bill Laqua were dedicated members of the United Church of Canada and were especially involved with the Thistle Ridge (Foremost Pastoral Charge) Congregation. Mildred preformed many hours of volunteer work throughout the years in the Lethbridge and Hoping areas. She crocheted afghans for all the children and grand children, and loved to play cribbage and read. She remembered all the special occasions and set an outstanding example for all the family. Families or friends in need were helped many times. Keeping the families closely knit was her greatest pride. Her keen and active mind was an asset the whole family shared and enjoyed. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. June 14, 1995 in MARTIN BROS. RIVER VIEW CHAPEL, 610 4 Street South and 4th Street Exit off Scenic Drive with Janise Belgum officiating. Interment will follow will follow in the Archmount Memorial Gardens Cemetery, family plot.
