She was born in her parents home in the Geneva Cemetery--her father was the cemetery sexton. Mildred passed away January 8, 2006, at the Exeter Care Center at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 8 days. She was one of two children in the family. Mildred and her sister, Gladys spent their childhood in Exeter. Mildred was baptized at the Exeter Congregational Church. this spring, she would have been acknowledged as a 70-year member. She graduated from the Exeter High School in 1936. After high school, she worked as a telephone operator, at the local bakery and C.C. Smith Tag Factory. In 1941, she married Fred Anton. Mildred and Fred had three children: Ronald Gene, Anita and Norman. Mildred worked as a nurse's aide in Friend, Exeter and Crete. She lost her first husband, Fred to cancer, in 1975. Fred, worked for 24 years delivering fuel for the Exeter Co-op Elevator. In July of 1977, she married Joseph P. Maas and moved to Crete. Joe worked as a mechanic at the Buick garage and in semi-retirement, he drove a Crete Public School bus. Together, they enjoyed dancing, dining out and travel. Most of all, they loved spending time with family and friends, old and new. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Sarah Ferguson, her first husband, Fred Anton; infant son Ronald Gene Anton and her late husband, Joseph P. Maas. She is survived by her daughter and husband, Anita and Laurence Jensen; son and wife Norman and Katrena; sister Gladys Hopken; grandchildren Rhonda Jensen, Tom Jensen and fiancee' Wendy Boyd; Burtram Anton; Lance Anton and Nathan Anton; great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Todd and Keegan Jensen; nieces: Georgia Thomas, Sharolyn Frey, Sandra Miller and Randra Hanson; step-daughters: Mary Brown, Kay McClintic and Rosie Nabity; as well as 13 step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild and one step-great-great-grandchild. Mildred will be remembered for taking photo graphs, sharing recipes, her many collections and having coffee with friends. She was never shy about making new friends. Funeral services were conducted from the United Church of Christ in Exeter, on Wednesday, January 11, with Pastors Tim and Ginny Adams officiating. Jeannine Krejci accompanied the congregation who sang, "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace." Casket bearers were Jack Sudrla, Ralph E. Jansen, Wayne Roebke, Rev. James Ernst, Norm Yound and J. W.
