Description	:	She was born Mildred Kelly on June 25, 1913, the first child of H.O. Kelly Sr. and Adelia Kelly of Apex. She grew up in the edge of Chatham County, graduated from Apex High School and attended Meredith College. She married Eugene W. Lawrence Sr., with whom she had five children. Read More	She was born Mildred Kelly on June 25, 1913, the first child of H.O. Kelly Sr. and Adelia Kelly of Apex. She grew up in the edge of Chatham County, graduated from Apex High School and attended Meredith College. She married Eugene W. Lawrence Sr., with whom she had five children. After Eugene Lawrence's death, she later married Russell L. Wells, with whom she lived with in Fayetteville. Shortly before his death she moved to Durham. For several years preceding her death, she lived at her daughter's home in Roxboro. During her 96 years, she never met a stranger, and never hesitated to share a smile and pleasant words of support to everyone she knew. She will be kindly remembered and missed by all those who received the benefit of her sincere concern and prayers, and especially her children, for whom she gave a lifetime of unconditional love. Mildred and Russell Wells were loyal members of First Baptist Church from 1972 until they moved to Durham in 1997, and held close to their hearts the friendships shared among that congregation and the Rev. Glen Holt. She was predeceased by her husbands, Eugene W. Lawrence Sr. and Russell L. Wells; and her eldest son, Dr. Eugene W. Lawrence Jr. She is survived by her children: Sarah Childers and husband Ken of Roxboro; Elizabeth Gunselman and husband Dan of Durham, Andrew Lawrence and wife Lou Ann Lawrence of Raleigh, Steven Lawrence and wife Georgiann Lawrence of Fayetteville, and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Lawrence of Franklin. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters: Hunter Kelly of Durham, H.O. Kelly Jr. and wife Mary of Apex, Jane Monroe and husband Thad of Chapel Hill, Hellen Nyimicz and husband Dan, of Macon, Ga. and Merrill Kelly of Alexandria, Va; her 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. The family would also like to give a special thanks to Frances Short and Cynthia Fuqua of Roxboro for the friendship and loving care that they provided Mrs. Wells in her final years.
