Description	:	Mildred L. Young, 76, a longtime resident of Wenatchee, died early Wednesday morning, July 23, 1997, at the University of Washington Medical Center of Seattle. She was born on March 16, 1921, at Oxford, Ark., to Joseph C. and Matilda (Martin) Garner. She grew up and received her early education in Oxford and as a young woman, Mildred enjoyed playing basketball on the local school team. Young, 76, a longtime resident of Wenatchee, died early Wednesday morning, July 23, 1997, at the University of Washington Medical Center of Seattle. She was born on March 16, 1921, at Oxford, Ark., to Joseph C. and Matilda (Martin) Garner. She grew up and received her early education in Oxford and as a young woman, Mildred enjoyed playing basketball on the local school team. Mildred's work experience began with her work on her family's farm. On Dec. 18, 1937, she married Zelah E. Ogle at Oxford. Together, they continued with this type of work in Arkansas, until they moved to the Wenatchee Valley in 1938. Here, she and Zelah worked on an orchard. Her duties involved working as a cook in the cookhouse for the orchard staff. In August of 1958, Mr. Ogle died, and Mildred took on the responsibility of a single mother raising her son on her own. Following the death of her first husband, Mildred became a successful business woman, after opening a women's clothing store with her business partner, Lucy Helm. Together, they owned and operated Mil Lu's Apparel of East Wenatchee. On Jan. 13, 1968, she married Guy B. Young here in Wenatchee. Mildred continued her work in the clothing store for several years and then worked as the store manager of the same clothing business when the name changed to Iris Rose Fashions. Mildred retired from here in the early 1980s. Mildred enjoyed working in her vegetable garden and growing flowers. She also took pleasure in cooking. Mildred enjoyed her many visits back to Arkansas to visit family and friends and recently made a trip back this June. She was also very actively involved with her church, the King's Orchard Church of Christ. She was a very loving person with a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She will always be remembered for her hospitality and for her service to others. Survivors include her son, Harice G. "Dev" Ogle of Rohnert Park, Calif.; her stepson, Larry M. Young of Camarillo, Calif.; her stepdaughter, Linda Young Balsamo of Howard Beach, Calif.; her six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; her brother, Noel Garner of West Plains, Mo.; and her three sisters, Earlene Helm of Melbourne, Ark., Vernee Rowden of Salem, Ark., and Ruby Pearson of Wenatchee. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, by a son, Lamar Ogle, by one sister, and by one brother. Arrangements are by Jones and Jones Funeral Directors of Wenatchee.
