Steele, 94, a longtime resident of Manson, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 1994, in Regency Manor Convalescent Center following an extended illness. She was born June 2, 1900, to Emmett L. and Viola (Gilbert) Ricks at Barid, Wash. At an early age she moved with her family to Newberg, Ore., where she began her schooling. Steele, 94, a longtime resident of Manson, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 1994, in Regency Manor Convalescent Center following an extended illness. She was born June 2, 1900, to Emmett L. and Viola (Gilbert) Ricks at Barid, Wash. At an early age she moved with her family to Newberg, Ore., where she began her schooling. She then moved with her family to Coulee City, Ephrata and to Wenatchee in 1918. She graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1920. She married C. Verne Steele on June 28, 1921, at Okanogan. They moved to Manson in 1924, where they owned and operated their own orchard. Mrs. Steele also worked seasonally in the packing sheds. She was a member of the Manson United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Church Women where she was active in quilting, and the Manson Garden Club. She is survived by a son, Lester of Manson; a daughter, Ardith Law of Tonasket; a brother, Marvin Ricks of Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Lela Neher of Portland, and Cevilla Berryman of Santa Barbara, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Arrangements are by Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
