Mildred Marie Smith, the daughter of Aaron and Eva (Russell) Hill, was born in Hamilton County, Nebraska, on June 30, 1903, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on November 3, 1993, at the age of 90 years, 4 months, and 3 days. Mildred Marie Smith, the daughter of Aaron and Eva (Russell) Hill, was born in Hamilton County, Nebraska, on June 30, 1903, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on November 3, 1993, at the age of 90 years, 4 months, and 3 days. She grew up on a farm north of Harvard, attended Verona Country School, and graduated from Harvard High School with the class of 1921. After graduation, she taught school. On October 13, 1923, she was united in marriage to John Smith. He preceded her in death on November 24, 1954. They farmed in the Harvard and Eldorado areas. After his death she graduated from Kearney State Teacher's College, in 1960, when she was 57 years old, and then taught school at Stapleton, Farnum and Phillips. Mildred was a long time member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, and belonged to the VWW Extension Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Leonard, an infant daughter, 2 brothers, Oliver and Ira Hill; 3 sisters, Ethel Harshman, Inez Vetter, and Eva Luthy. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her son James Smith of Grand Island; 3 daughters, Lois Martin of Garden Grove, California, Luetta Tucker of Monett, Missouri, and Kathleen Kermmonde of LaVista; one sister Maude Hill of Aurora; 12 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.
