Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2014, at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Rev. William Hamill will officiate. Brower, age 89, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2014, at a local care center in Watertown. She was the widow of Harold "Bill" Brower. Honorary pallbearers will be the Presbyterian Lunch Bunch, the Sons of Norway, the Golden Living Center Staff, the Prairie Lakes Home Health and Hospice and all grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Jon Chapman, Patrick Chapman, Steve Woods, Steve Compton, Mike Gibson, Jacob Chapman and Caleb Chapman. Mildred was born on September 11, 1924, in Naples, SD, to Magnus and Julie (Kolbu) Mathison. She graduated from Clark High School in 1942 as Valedictorian. She then moved to Minneapolis, MN, and attended Minneapolis Business School. On a bus ride home from school, Mildred met Bill. On July 14, 1944, Mildred married Harold “Bill” Brower at Good Hope Lutheran Church, north of Willow Lake, SD. The couple farmed in the Willow Lake area, then moved to Watertown in 1956 with their family. She started working at Watertown Monument Works where she worked and retired after 30 plus years. Bill passed away on April, 30, 2001. Mildred continued to make her home in Watertown. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Sons of Norway, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Mildred enjoyed doing word searches, crossword puzzles, playing pinnacle, making lefse, and especially loved being around family. She enjoyed canning and gardening, and had a deep love for animals. Mildred is survived by her three sons: Hugh Brower, of Rapid City, SD, Steve (Diane) Woods, of Milbank, SD, and Steve (Sue) Compton, of Fremont, NE; one daughter, Judi M. (Howard) Clark, of Watertown, SD; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Merle (Judy Ann) Brower, and one sister-in-law, Arlene (Elmer) Keller, all of Watertown, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; and one grandson, Chuck. Obituary and photo by Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel.
