Description	:	MATHEWS - God called Mildred Callis Thompson, 89, home on Sept. 11, 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Ray and Virginia Soles Callis. She was a member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church, where she served as church historian and keeper of records, teacher for the Active Adult Church School Class and as secretary for the Council of Ministries for 23 years. Mildred held a Bachelor of Science Degree from Longwood College, with a minor in Music and Master of Arts Degree from the University of Virginia. Ray and Virginia Soles Callis. She was a member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church, where she served as church historian and keeper of records, teacher for the Active Adult Church School Class and as secretary for the Council of Ministries for 23 years. Mildred held a Bachelor of Science Degree from Longwood College, with a minor in Music and Master of Arts Degree from the University of Virginia. She was a member of Kappa Delta National Social Sorority as well as the American Legion Post # 83 Auxiliary. Mrs. Thompson was past president of the Virginia Federation of Music Clubs for two terms, past Chairman of the Southeastern Region Opera Department of the National Federation of Music Clubs, and Life Member of the National Federation of Music Clubs. She was a Charter Member and past president of the Mathews Historical Society. Locally, Mrs. Thompson was a Charter Member and past president of the Mathews Music Study Club, Chairman of the Mathews County Bicentennial Commission 1974-1981, past president and member of both Mathews County Woman's Club, the former Colonial Garden Club, as well as past Tidewater District Director and member of Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs . She is survived by her husband, Benjamin M. Thompson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 13, at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Va. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at Locust Grove United Methodist Church, Dutton, Va., with interment in Windsor Garden Cemetery, Dutton, Va.
