Miles Ernest Cary, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Cary of this city, passed away Friday, February 28th at the Veterans Hospital in Fargo. Mr. Cary left his home at Crosby last Tuesday morning to take treatment for a stomach aliment from which he suffered the past three years and the end came very suddenly Friday at 2:20 p.m. The direct cause of death is given as peritonitis. Miles Ernest Cary was born in Woolstock, Iowa, June 28, 1894. He moved with his parents to Park Rapids, Minn., in 1896 and came to Kenmare in 1905. He attended the Kenmare schools and when sixteen years old began work as a salesman for the Kenmare Bottling Works of which he was a partner with his father. In 1915, he and his father established a Bottling Works in Omemee and Crosby, N.D., and which were operated successfully until war broke out in 1915. He enlisted June 15, 1917 with Co. C of Crosby and was called into service July 15th of the same year. He went overseas in December and landed in England on Christmas Day. He was gassed April 17th and again in the second battle of the Marne. He returned to the states at the close of the war and was discharged at Camp Dodge in April 1919. On June 11, 1919, he was united in marriage to Miss Nina Lippke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gust Lippke of Crosby. To them one son was born, Arthur B. Cary, who with his mother and parents survive. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon from the Methodist Episcopal Church, the Rev. W. H. Farthing, officiating and the remains were laid to rest in the Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare.
