Description	:	Miles Shore was born near Jonesville, Yadkins county, North Carolina, Feb 22, 1860. He was the youngest of six children born to John and Sarah Moore [sic,Shore]. His father passed away a few weeks before he was born. His first eight years were spent with his mother in a log cabin in the mountains of North Carolina, and he often spoke of the soldiers of Sherman's army who came to their cabin during the war between the states. Read More	Miles Shore was born near Jonesville, Yadkins county, North Carolina, Feb 22, 1860. He was the youngest of six children born to John and Sarah Moore [sic,Shore]. His father passed away a few weeks before he was born. His first eight years were spent with his mother in a log cabin in the mountains of North Carolina, and he often spoke of the soldiers of Sherman's army who came to their cabin during the war between the states. When he was eight years old, the family migrated to Pendleton, Ind, where he grew to young manhood on a farm. In 1880, together with his mother, his brother Louis, and a nephew, Monroe, he left Indiana and by covered wagon came across Illinois and Iowa until he reached the Seth Clarke farm southeast of Clarinda. Here the family stopped and the men worked in the corn harvest. Liking the community and its people, they stayed permanently. It was here he met Annie Reeves to whom he was married in November, 1883. The young people again felt the urge to go west and they moved to Mitchell county, Kansas, where they farmed for seven years. Here the dughters, Pearl, Grace, and Jessie, were born. But the winds and droughts of Kansas were alien to their way of life and they returened to Iowa in 1890 and lived for a year southwest of New Market. In 1891 they purchased the farm one-half mile east of New Market where they lived and prospered until they retired to their present home in New Market in 1911. While living on the farm east of New Market, their fourth and last child, Victor, was born. After retiring to their home in New Market, Mr Shore managed the New Market Telephone Exchange for many years. He also served two terms as mayor, and served as a member of the official board of the Methodist church for many years. In 1933, Mr and Mrs Shore celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with their children, grandchildren, and their many friends. Their marriage was broken in 1937 by the death of his wife. Since then he has lived in his home in New Market. He is survived by his daughters, Mrs Pearl Crawford, Mrs Grace Webb, and Mrs Jessie Harris, all of New Market, and a son, Victor Shore of Chicago, Ill. Mr Shore was a member of the Methodist church. He was a man of highest morals and a kind and devoted father. His passing is mourned by his children, grandchildren, and many friends. The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church in New Market, conducted by Rev Harry Walling, assisted by Rev T.J. Overholt. Interment was made in Memory cemetery. The active pallbearers were Kenneth Abbott, Ralph Pendergraft, Frank Savage, Wayne Steeves, Glen Taylor, R.R. Watson. The honorary pallbearers were Smith Brooks, Bert Clark, John Godfrey, Charles Hook, Frank Hunter, George Moore, R.M. Tuttle.
