CLARINDA HERALD JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, Oct 26, 1959 Mrs Pearl Crawford passed away Friday morning Oct 23, 1959, at the University Hospital at Iowa City after a seige of suffering from cancer. For the past ten months she has had everything possible done to make her last days on earth as peaceful as possible, knowing that the disease had developed to an incurable stage and that the end was just a matter of time. She had been tenderly cared for during this time at the home of her daughter, Mrs Ronald Anderson, and family. She had been confined to their home for many months and suffered greatly with a malady that baffled medical science. In her death the community loses a woman of many virtues and she will be sincerely mourned by all who ever came in contact with her. Practically all her life had been spent in this immediate vicinity, and her many deeds of kindness and helpful administrations will long remain bright spots in the hearts and minds of countless numbers. Ethel Pearl Shore, oldest daughter of the late Miles and Annie Reeves Shore, was born in Mitchell County, Kansas, near Beloit, Aug 19, 1884. At the age of six years she moved with her parents to Taylor County, Iowa, one-half mile east of New Market. Here she grew to womanhood, attending the New Market public school. She graduated from high school in the class of 1901. She attended Highland Park College in Des Moines and taught school in the rural schools and in the New Market school. In early age, she confessed faith in her Saviour and united with the Methodist Church. She was united in marriage to Oren C. Crawford on March 15, 1904. To this union three children were born. The oldest, Harry Robert, passed away at birth. The two living children are Kenneth Miles Crawford of Auburn, Calif, and Ethel Lucille Anderson of Durant, Ia. Her husband's untimely death resulting from an accident occurred Dec 23, 1928. After the death of her husband she moved to New Market. In 1929, she became a nurse in the Mental Health Institute at Clarinda, ministering daily to the ills and needs of mankind less fortunate. After a quarter century of service she retired and enjoyed her home life. Mrs Crawford leaves to mourn her passing her son, Kenneth Crawford and wife Lucille, and grandson, Jack Crawford; her daughter, Ethel, and husband, Ronald Anderson and grandchildren, Joyce, Carl and Matthew Anderson. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs T.A. Harris and Mrs G.R. Webb of New Market; one brother, Miles Victor Shore of Winter Haven, Fla, besides a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. We shall miss her greatly, but in faith we trust Him who doeth all things well. Although her figure is gone, we find comfort in the words of the Author when he said "There is no death. Thy stars go down to shine upon some fairer shore and bright in Heaven's jeweled crown they shine forevermore." Although she is gone from our sight, we will not forget her sweet lessons of love and purity which comfort our hearts with the thoughts that though she cannot return to us we may go to her and abide in the land where there is no parting and with all our grief and sorrow we look to Him who doeth all things well.
