Funeral services were held Thursday, June 11, 1:30 p.m. at Bethel United Presbyterian Church, West Union. Rev. Richard L. Menzel officiated. Interment was in God's Acres Cemetery, Clermont. Muchlethaler Funeral Home, Elgin was in charge of arrangements. Millard, son of Johanes and Julia (Evenson) Larson, was born June 3, 1903 at rural Clermont, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area, attending Pleasant Valley rural school. He was baptized June 5, 1903 at East Clermont Lutheran Church and confirmed June 14, 1918 at West Clermont Lutheran Church. He was married to Edith Ostrander November 28, 1934 in West Union. They farmed for a short time near Fayette, then moved on the home farm for a while. Upon moving to Clermont Millard went to work for the Farm Bureau driving a gasoline truck. He later joined his brother's roofing company and continued to work and operate it until his retirement. Millard always remained active in his community and his church. He was Luther League president for several years, sang in the church octet, he was an original member of the Fayette County Historical Society and Senior Citizens. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on October 15, 1980; 3 brothers: Edwin, Harold and Joseph and 3 sisters: Ida Arness, Mabel Fletcher and Alta Blood. Survivors include 2 daughters: Mrs. Leo (Ann) Orth, Clermont and Mrs. Lee (Joyce) Probert, Oelwein; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 2 brothers: John, of West Union and Russell, of Clermont and 2 sisters: Mrs. Viola Arness, of Decorah and Mrs. Richard (Gladys) Gulsvig, of Cedar Falls. Casket Bearers were Roger Eatle, Richard Earle, Anton Larson, Edwin Larson, Jr., Richard Probert and Neil Orth. Postville, Iowa newspaper of the time clipping from my mother's obituary collection.
