Mrs. Meldrum had been in failing health for the past two years and during the past winter she became seriously ill. For several weeks previous to her passing she was fully aware of the seriousness of her condition and awaited death calmly and patiently. Her suffering at times was severe, yet she bore it with marvellous fortitude and her ready smile welcomed everyone, to the hour of her death. In the passing of Mrs. Meldrum, Upper Branch has become the poorer. She never missed a church service when it was possible for her to attend, and was, before her illness, a valued member of the choir. She was a member of the United (Methodist) Church but there being no services of that denomination in this community, she was a ready and willing helper in the Lutheran and Baptist Church work here. It was her dying request that Rev. Monk of the Lutheran Church, a personal friend, should conduct her funeral service. She was buried on Monday morning, June 11th, her remains being laid to rest beside her only son, Reginald, who predeceased her by fifteen years. Rev. Monk selected as his text 1 Cor. 15:42 and 43, and preached a beautiful and uplifting sermon. Mrs. Meldrum, formerly Miss Powers, was born at Riversdale, now Pinehurst and taught school for a number of years before her marriage. In her immediate family she is survived by her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Arthur Langdon of Dorchester, Massachusetts, who spent the past two years with her mother. She also leaves two grand-children, Frank Meldrum of Wentzell's Lake and Ruby Langdon, of Dorchester; two brothers, Charles of Pinehurst and Howard of M. Vernon, New Hampshire. Relatives, neighbours, and friends who mourn their loss brought as a last tribute of affection many floral tokens.
