Mrs. Dennis died Thursday in Allison Nursing Care Center in Lakewood, Colo., where she lived. She was 96. Millie May was one of fourteen children born to Jacob and Sarah Edwards Bloom, at Bingham, Page County, Morton Township. This large family occasioned the placement of Millie with foster parents at the age of five. She attended school in a small one-roomed country school house and in later years, Western Normal College at Shenandoah. Around 1885 two wagon trains proceeded westward. On one train was Millie and on the other was George Henry Dennis, both small children. At Bird City, Kansas, the Bloom Family turned back to return to the land of Chief Waubunsee (sic) in Iowa and the Dennis family turned north and settled at Sutton. Years later, George brought Millie to Sutton, and on February 22, 1906, they were married at the home of Mr. (Charles) and Mrs. (Aunt Mary) Todt. Her husband died in February 1912 and she remained widowed for the remainder of her life. She and the three boys, Howard, Harry and Homer, moved to Yuma, Colo. in 1919 and they were for many years custodians of the West Side Grade School there. In summer vacations, they were employed at the YMCA Conference Institution at Estes Park. Millie was the head of the housekeeping crew who cared for the 80 cottages of the Circle; Homer (age 12) drove the truck of that department; Harry ran the light plant; and Howard rang the bell for calls to classes, eight times a day. Millie was an accomplished musician on the organ, piano and violin; and, later in life acquired a self-taught knowledge of Gregg Shorthand as well as coming to use the touch system on the typewriter. Baptized by immersion early in life, she continued a devout Christian until her passing. Until 1942, she was of the Methodist persuasion, when she changed to the Seventy-Day Adventist faith. Among her possessions were found six much-worn Bibles. Her study and knowledge of them were evidenced by the many underlinings and commentaries found therein. She organized and taught a Sunday School in her own home for years, and from 1942 on was a member and ardent worked in The Denver First Seventh-Cay (sic) Adventist Church. She was independent and active until age 92, caring for her lawn, yard and home without help, until incapacitated by several strokes and heart attacks. Surviving are her three sons: Howard of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; Harry of Cascade, Colo.; Homer of Atlanta, Mo.; a sisger (sic), Myrtle Lowdermilk of Orland, Calif.; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
