Description	:	GREEN-- Milo G. Rigel, 88, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at the Leonardville Nursing Home, Leonardville. Mr. Rigel was born Aug. 21, 1923, at Waterville, the son of Albin and Edith (Swoboda) Rigel. He attended grade school near Waterville and graduated from Clay Center High School. After graduation, he joined the Army where he served in the Pacific during World War II. On May 2, 1946 he married Elvira Yeager of Green. Rigel, 88, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at the Leonardville Nursing Home, Leonardville. Mr. Rigel was born Aug. 21, 1923, at Waterville, the son of Albin and Edith (Swoboda) Rigel. He attended grade school near Waterville and graduated from Clay Center High School. After graduation, he joined the Army where he served in the Pacific during World War II. On May 2, 1946 he married Elvira Yeager of Green. They purchased their farm in 1954 which was his home until November 2011 when he moved to the Leonardville Nursing Home. Along with his 60 years of farming, he worked construction which included the building of the Tuttle Creek Dam and projects at Fort Riley. He was a member of the Green United Methodist Church and lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 8746 of Green. Milo is survived by his wife, Elvira, of the home; two daughters, Janet Burwell and husband Ritch of Riley and Donna Francis and companion Sid of Belleville; three granddaughters, Michelle Ashburn of Riley, Angela Carrara of Junction City and Amy Graves of Belleville; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, at the Green United Methodist Church, Green, with the Pastors Galen Lund and Dwight Diller officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the Green Fancy Creek Cemetery north of Green. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Green United Methodist Church or the Leonardville Nursing Home. Memorial contributions may be left in care of the Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley. Condolences may be left for the family at www.pfeifleyfuneralhome.com.
