Description	:	Milton Carl "Milt" Westendorf, 79, of Waverly, Iowa, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his six children Saturday morning, July 2, 2011, from complications of cancer. Milt was born on November 6, 1931, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Henry F. and Adella (Hagemann) Westendorf. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. Read More	Milton Carl "Milt" Westendorf, 79, of Waverly, Iowa, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his six children Saturday morning, July 2, 2011, from complications of cancer. Milt was born on November 6, 1931, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Henry F. and Adella (Hagemann) Westendorf. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. Milt attended the Waverly School System, graduating from the Waverly High School in 1950. Following his schooling Milt went to work for Ed Platte at Platte DX. On August 10, 1951, he was united in marriage to Grace N. Ormston, at the home of her parents near Bremer. He continued to work at Platte DX part-time, even during the six years he operated the DX tank wagon. On April 1, 1960, Milt purchased the DX station from Mr. Platte and it was renamed Westendorf DX. He was a long time business owner on Main Street in Waverly and very proud of his full-service gas station he ran for many years. Grace died on May 3, 2004, and Milt continued to live in his home in Waverly. Most days he could be found at the station with his son Ed and visiting with friends. Milt was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. Milt's passion was Harley-Davidson motorcycles, antique cars and the numerous car rides he and Grace took. He enjoyed making music with his family and especially playing his dobro. Milt really enjoyed being with family, friends and spending time with his grandchildren. Giving rides in his 1928 Model A on holidays around Waverly was a special day for Milt. Milt is survived by one son and his wife, Ed (Janet) Westendorf of Waverly; five daughters and their husbands, Marilyn (Dutch) Whitney, Kathryn (Dan) Boeckmann, Barb (Carter) Corson, Ellen (Jim) Schutte, and Julie Westendorf all of Waverly; 11 grandchildren, Mark Westendorf, Jennifer (Andy) Demuth, Angela (Adam) Vaske, Tyler Boeckmann, Kimberly and Carolyn Corson, Cody Schutte, Katie Schutte and her fiancé Jeremy Wurzer, Jacob and Hannah Schutte, and Ryan Kramer; 2 great grandchildren, Ayla Demuth and Benjamin Vaske; one brother and his wife, Joe (Leola) Westendorf of Waverly; a sister-in-law, Janet Westendorf of Waverly; and numerous nieces and nephews. Milt was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Grace (2004), grandson Brian (2000), brothers, Bob (1981), Don (1991), Stanley (2007); and one sister, Mae Willey (2006). Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly, with Pastor Curt Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 5th from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home in Waverly and also for an hour prior to services Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice – Waverly office or to the family where a fund will be established at a later date.
