After Minnie death in 1924, Milton married Frances Marie Mitchell Miller in 1928. 1931 - Rural mail delivery leading from Spencer no strange territory for M. E. Chase. Mr. Chase, commonly called "Doc," by his fellow workers, not only knows the route of No. 1, but has traveled it in spring, summer, fall and winter, has made his daily trip over the roads when mud was "feet" deep, has seen it changed to gravel, has seen farms change ownership, he has made the trip with a one horse buggy, long before the automobile made a general appearance, has made the trip with two horses to pull the buggy through the mud and snow, and has made it by automobile. Monday, Mr. Chase began his thirty-first consecutive year in the employment of Uncle Sam's postal department, and thirty of those years have been spent carrying the mail on R. F. D. No. 1. "Doc" is a native of Clay county, was born here in a sod house, on his father's homestead about six miles south of Spencer. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lindley Murrey Chase, moved to Clay county from New Hampshire and settled south of Spencer. When "Doc" was 3, they moved to near Decorah, Ia., where they lived for 17 years before Mr Chase came back to Spencer going to his grandfather Nathan Chases farm. Mr. Chase was the first postmaster of Annieville, named after "Doc" Chase's grandmother. In 1901, "Doc" began his duties in the Spencer post office and he started carrying mail on R. F. D. No. 1, the first rural route out of Spencer with Doc as the first mail man on the route.
