News, Nov. 11, 1993 ____________________________________________________ MILTON BAER OBITUARY Milton Jensen Baer was born March 6, 1914 at the family home on Topeka Street in Ness City, the only son of six children born to Roy Harrison and Anna Jensen Baer. He passed away following a short illness at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend, Kansas Tuesday, November 2, 1993 at the age of 79. After graduating from Ness City High School in 1932, he attended Fort Hays State Teachers’ College. August 8, 1937 he married Mildred Mauth of Bazine and they moved to the farm east of Ness City, where they would spend all their days as farmers, stockmen, horsemen, parents and grandparents. Having lost his father, Milt spent his summers from age seven working on his Uncle William and Aunt Daisy Baer’s farm. He learned to cultivate and harvest early. Although he owned an interest in and worked in the Baer and Kohl drugstore for several years while supporting the farm, farming was his life. He bought the farm from his father’s estate in 1940. Milton and Mildred had one daughter, Stephanie. In 1971, Stephanie returned from college with her husband, Alex, bringing Milton a companion with whom he could share his love of the farm. Their grandchildren, Stephen, Alexis and Tiffany, each brought their own special sense of pride. Keeping the children from babyhood through kindergarten during the hours Stephanie taught school gave them a chance to develop a closeness enjoyed by few grandparents. He passes to his children and grandchildren his love of the land held in his family for four generations. His time to teach them was a gift beyond measure. Milt and Mildred shared many dreams and ambitions: the happiness of their daughter and her family, the additions and renovations to the farmstead and home (in which he took great pride), the continuation of the family farming operation. Milton left this life with his family and farm secure, his life’s work complete, his fondest ambitions realized. He will be missed, but he leaves behind assured remembrance. Mildred preceded Milton in death on August 8, 1988. In addition to Alex, Stephanie, Stephen, Alexis and Tiffany, he is survived by four sisters: Lois Trigg, Dallas, TX.; Marjorie Bailey, Plainville; Dorothy Hobson, Temecula, CA.; and Willa Jones, Reno, NV.
