Read More	SOURCE: THE ANAMOSA JOURNAL EUREKA...APRIL 13, 2000...PAGE 11 MILTON RIEKEN 1925 - 2000 Milton Rieken, age 74, of Monticello, died Sunday evening, April 9, 2000 at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness, Funeral services will be 11:00 Thursday morning, April 13 at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with interment in the Wayne Zion Cemetery. The Monticello Drill Team will present military honors Milton J. Rieken was born May 22, 1925 at Monticello. He was the son of John W. and Clara Zimmerman Rieken. He received his education in the Monticello Community Schools where he graduated in 1943, Milton then worked on area farms He served in the United States Army during WWII Milton worked at the Schafer Clothing Store for many years. In 1956 he purchased R.J. Station in Scotch Grove. He operated that business for 17 years Following the sale of the business in 1973, Milton went to work for Swiss Valley Farms. He picked up and delivered milk samples from all the collection sites to the lab, a daily route of 350 miles. When he wasn't on the route Milton also cared for and moved several rural cemeteries as well as being the custodian of the United Church of Monticello. He retired from Swiss Valley in 1997. Milton was a member of the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, He was also an active member of the VFW and the American Legion. He served as the Post Commander of the VFW in 1959 and 1960. Milton is survived by his fiancee, Donna Ulferts, Monticello; one brother, Rodney (Alice) Rieken, St. Louis, MO; four nieces, Annie Rieken, Waterloo, IL. Christine Manhart, Union, O; his fiancee's family, Carlene Hefflefinger, Olin, Becky Printup, Tyler, TX and Jeff Ulferts, Swisher; seven special grandchildren and 12 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The Goettsch Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
