Funeral services were held 11:00 Tuesday morning, June 2 at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with interment in the Wayne Zion Cemetery. The Rev. Eugene Schipper officiated at the service. Clara Zimmerman was born November 1, 1906 in Wayne Township, Jones County. She was the daughter of John Henry and Anne Helgens Zimmerman. She received her education in the rural schools near her home. Clara Zimmerman and John W. Rieken were married November 5, 1924 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in Wayne Township until 1957. The couple moved to Monticello and Clara worked at the John McDonald Hospital as a cook for a brief time. She was later employed at the school lunch program in Monticello for many years as a cook. For over 30 years Clara was also the janitor at the First Congregational Church in Monticello. John preceded her in death on August 30, 1983. Clara was a life-long member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church She was baptized on November 25, 1906 and confirmed her faith on March 20, 1921. Surviving are two sons, Milton and special friend, Donna Ulferts, Monticello and Rodney and Alice of St. Louis, MO; four granddaughters, extended grandmother to three Ulferts children and many others; 14 grandchildren; two brothers, Lester Zimmerman, Monticello and Emil Zimmerman, Anamosa; two sisters, Eliza Shannon and Lorene McDonald, both of Monticello. She was preceded in death by her husband, John and one brother, Herman. Casket bearers were John Thoeni, James Zimmerman, David Zimmerman, Dennis McDonald, Albert Storm and Richard Andreesen.
