Swisher went from earth to the Heavenly home Feb 3, 1934, after an illness of only a few days. Mima Quivey Swisher was born in Wayne county, New York, Oct 26, 1844, and passed away in Clarinda, Iowa, at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 8 days. She was of pioneer stock. When she was less than one year old, her parents moved to Carroll county, Illinois. She inherited from her parents those fine traits of christian character that made her a wife, mother and neighbor beloved. She grew to womanhood amid the pioneer surroundings of Illinois. Her education was secured through the public schools at Mt Morris college. She was not only a student of books but a lover of children, who in return loved her. She loved to teach and was a public school teacher for seven years before her marriage. One desire of her life was that her children might be teachers, and this desire was realized in several of her children, four of whom are now teachers in Sunday schools. On Nov 18, 1868, she was united in marriage to William H. Swisher of Franklin county, Pennsylvania, at Milligevill, Ill. In the following spring, 1869, this young couple came to Page county and settled on the farm where they have since made their home. They came as far as Afton by train, which was at that time the end of the railroad. They came the rest of the way overland and were among the first settlers of this community. Mrs Swisher was converted and united with the church when a girl of 16 years. She was a charter member of the North Grove church and was a devout and faithful christian until the end. Her home was a "haven of refuge" to early circuit riders of the church; in fact, it was home to all who needed a friend. She was a devoted wife, loving and tender mother. She filled a place of influence in the community. Her talent most prominently observed by all who knew her, was the sweet spirit and loving graces of which nature had so beautifully bestowed, together with the gentle courage always to do right. This won her a place of esteem among all her acquaintances. Her home was a place of love and cheer. Visitors were welcomed by her in that gracious manner so becoming to fine womanhood. This community weeps for one of its most noble examples of christian character, one whose ideals came near perfection, and whose daily life and humble ministry was a reflection of her Lord. As a neighbor and friend, she spared no strength in doing the little things, yet the needful, which add to much comfort to the home where sickness or sorrow has come. Mr Swisher preceded her in death in 1908, but 7 children, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends remain to mourn her going. The children are W.C. Swisher and Mrs R.O. Owen of Clarinda, H.E. Swisher and Mrs W.A. Reed of Hepburn, Mrs D.R. Patterson of Arkansas City, Kans., Mrs Carl Bentley of Broadwater, Nebr, and Miss Mary Swisher at home. The flower girls were Mrs Ned Farrens, Mrs Allen Gossett, Thelma Bennett and Maxine Swisher, and the pallbearers were Robert Mullen, Lou Reed, George Dunn, Johnnie McCoy, Bird Dunn and Ed Day. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr and Mrs D.R. Patterson of Arkansas City, Kans., Mr and Mrs Carl Bentley of Broadwater, Nebr, Mrs J.B. Quivey and Mrs Will Quivey of Omaha, Nebr., Clyde Reed of Norfolk, Nebr, Mr and Mrs Eugene Owen of Creston, Ia, and Mrs Cal Snodgrass and Mrs Elsie Wiggins of Yorktown, Ia.
