Davis passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 11th, after an illness of seventeen years, at their home in Adams. Minerva Jane Clutter was born at Harrisville, West Virginia, May 10, 1852. DAVIS PASSED AWAY SUNDAY MORNING. Mrs. M[ilton] L. Davis passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 11th, after an illness of seventeen years, at their home in Adams. Minerva Jane Clutter was born at Harrisville, West Virginia, May 10, 1852. She was the second of a family of ten children of Dr J[ohn] J and Elizabeth Clutter. She grew to girlhood at Harrisville and was educated at Ervington, Ohio Academy. After graduation she taught in Ohio until she moved with her family in 1868 to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. She taught school in Iowa until her marriage to M. L. Davis at Pleasant Grove, Ia., Feb 3, 1875. After her marriage she and her husband moved to Essex, Iowa, where they lived for seven years, then moved to Crab Orchard, Neb., where they lived for seventeen years. They came to Adams in 1901 and have been respected citizens of this community for the past twenty-five years. She was converted in 1874 at Pleasant Grove, Iowa and united with the Cumberland, Presbyterian Church. After moving to Crab Orchard she affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church and has continued to be a faithful member of that denomination and has always lived a consistent Christian life, and while able to do so always took a prominent part in the Sunday School and the other activities of the church, her greatest pleasure being the work of the church. For years her home was always open for the pastors and church workers. Mr. and Mrs. Davis never had any children of their own but she was a devoted mother to Charles Scaggs of Ellendale, N. D., whom they raised from childhood. She has been an invalid for the past seventeen years when she suffered a stroke of paralysis, but through all of her suffering has never murmured but would always greet you with a smile. She is survived by her husband, two brothers, Luther Clutter of Memphis, Mo., William Clutter of Fordland, Mo., and two sisters, Mrs. Frances Olson, of Wyconda, Mo. and Mrs. Addie Upton of Adams. The entire community mourns the loss of this good woman. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock conducted by Rev E. C. Moore, assisted by Rev. J. W. Davis, and Rev S. E. Bishop. Interment was in Highland Cemetery." END
