Minnie was united in marriage 23 Aug 1940 in Nodaway County, Missouri with Jonathan "John" Cryder; the son of George T. and Ruth Savanna (Moore) Cryder. Minnie and John married late in life and had no children. John farmed on the family farm 3 miles east and 2 ¾ miles north of Graham. Minnie taught commerce at the Northwest Missouri State College at Maryville for 20 years. After their retirement, John and Minnie moved to Skidmore. John, age 84, passed away 29 Nov 1977; and Minnie, age 92, passed away at the home she made with a sister in Birmingham, Jefferson, Alabama on 08 Mar 1980. John and Minnie are buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Maryville, Nodaway, Missouri. ------------------------------------------------------------ MARYVILLE, MO. The engagement of Miss Minne B. James, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. C.C. James of Maryville, to John Cryder of Skidmore was announced at a luncheon at the Linville Hotel in Maryville last Saturday. The horoscope and signs of the zodiac were used in the table appointments and a large gazing globe in the center of the table was surrounded by bowls of pink gladioli and white asters. Dr. Blanche H. Dow revealed the engagement by reading a poem telling what she saw in the gazing globe. Miss James is an instructor in the commerce department at the state teachers’ college at Maryville and formerly taught at Benton High School in St. Joseph. She is the sponsor of Pi Omega Pi, national commerce fraternity at the college. The wedding will take place late in August. The hostesses at the luncheon honoring Miss James were Doctor Dow, Dr. Ruth Lowery, Miss Estella Bowman and Miss Olive S. DeLuce.
