In her birth year 1912 her father Jouke Baker filed on a quarter (of a square mile, 160 acres) in the agrarian hamlet of Neerlandia, which was founded in December 1911 by 16 Dutchmen. Neerlandia is located in central Alberta within the county of Barrhead and situated between Mellowdale and Vega, approximately 20 kilometers north of Barrhead and northwest of Westlock. The name "Neerlandia" refers to the first settlers' country of origin, the Netherlands. In 1915 her father Jouke bought another quarter in Neerlandia and let the first one go. In 1916 Minnie Baker (3 years old, born in province Alberta, Canada), her father Joseph Baker (29, Holland, immigrated in 1911 [from the USA]), mother Alice (30, Holland, immigrated in 1911 [from the USA]), and her brother George (6, USA, immigrated in 1911) were living in electoral district Edmonton East, Alberta, Canada. In 1917 the family Baker moved from Edmonton to their new log house in Neerlandia. On September 25, 1917 her sister Catharina (Kay) was born in Neerlandia, Alberta, Canada and on March 30, 1920 brother Charles (Karel). In 1921 Minka Baker (9), her father Joseph Baker (36, farmer), mother Alice (36, Holland, immigrated in 1911 [from the USA]), and siblings George (11), Catherine (4, Alberta) and Carl (2, Alberta) were living in a rented, wooden house in electoral district Edmonton West, Alberta, Canada, in fact in the Dutch farmers settlement of Neerlandia. Also in 1921 the family Baker moved back to Edmonton, where they bought a good bungalow home. In November 17, 1923 her sister Magdalena was born in Edmonton. In the spring of 1926 the family Baker moved back to Neerlandia, this time to stay. On 19 June 1932 Minnie Baker married in Neerlandia AEbe Plantinga. They had the following children, probably all born at their farm in Neerlandia: ~ Stewart (Sjoerd), born on July 31, 1933; ~ Joe (Jouke), December 7, 1934; ~ Annette Ruth, May 3, 1937; ~ Gilles, November 2, 1939; ~ Ella Catherine, February 17, 1942; ~ Richard Henry, September 19, 1947; ~ Albert Charles, December 5, 1948; ~ Dora Kathleen, April 12, 1952; ~ Duane Philip and Donald John, twins, November 22, 1953.
