OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, August 31, 1965 MINNIE BELLE LONG Minnie Belle Turner, eldest daughter of Edwin Ray and Malinda Hardy Turner, was born in Monroe county, Ia., on October 5, 1874, and passed away on Aug. 24, 1965, at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 19 days, at Chariton, Ia., where she had made her home with her daughter the past few years. As a young woman, she joined the Wayne United Brethren church near Melrose. On March 6, 1898, she was united in marriage to Virgil O. Grimes, who died in 1910, leaving her with three small children to raise on a farm in the Bethel community. On July 24, 1922, she was married to I. N. Long of the Bethel community and he passed away in November, 1926. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Blanche Patterson of Chariton, and Mrs. Walter (Effie) James of Knoxville; 19 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Nell Hull of Chariton, Mrs. Edna Hull of Russell; one brother, Roy Turner of Nashville, Tenn., and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by the aforementioned husbands, one son, Arthur Ellis Grimes at the age of 20; her parents, three brothers, two sisters and three grandchildren. Throughout the years she was always ready to accomplish the tasks before her uncomplainingly and spent a number of years as a companion and housekeeper to those less able to do for themselves. A devoted mother and loving grandmother, she delighted in keeping count of the new members in the family. Her faith in her Saviour was attested to by her daily use of her Bible, with its numerous handwritten reminder notes. In July of 1965, she reaffirmed her faith in God and gave her membership to the Evangelical United Brethren church of Chariton. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. August 27, 1965, at the Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home. The Rev. V. E. Shickell officiated at the services. Interment was in the Bethel cemetery.
