Description	:	Miss Minnie Brown, of Americus, was fatally injured this morning about 11:30 o'clock, when she was run over by an automobile driven by Mrs. John K. Samuel. She died about an hour later in St. Mary's Hospital. She had regained consciousness and physicians were expecting her to recover slowly from the shock of the accident, when death came suddenly. She died about an hour later in St. Mary's Hospital. She had regained consciousness and physicians were expecting her to recover slowly from the shock of the accident, when death came suddenly. Internal hemorrhages from injuries the nature of which can only be guessed, were the probably cause. Both wheels passed over the girl's body, slanting down from the shoulder. The accident occurred on Commercial Street, immediately north of the Sixth Avenue intersection. It was the first time Mrs. Samuel had driven the car alone. She left her home at 518 Union Street about 11:15, intending to drive to the Samuel Furniture Store and take Mr. Samuel home for dinner. After a short detour several blocks north on Union Street and back on Market, she headed west on Sixth Avenue. She passed Commercial Street and wheeled her car around in the middle of the next block. She then approached Commercial Street corner from the west, driving on the right side of the road, at a speed which is estimated by witnesses, as being eight or ten miles an hour. A south-bound streetcar was standing on the north side of the intersection. Mrs. Samuel said to a reporter from the Gazette: "I intended to pass around in front of this street car and go to the store, but I thought it was going to start. Another street car was coming from the east on the avenue line, and while it was some ways off, it confused me. I turned to the left and tried to pass around the street car on the left side. I honked the horn, and some people got out of the way, but this girl didn't." Mrs. Samuel was greatly agitated when telling her story. W. W. Parker, who was an eye witness of the accident from the Hamer and Ganse Law Office in the second story of the Citizen's National Bank building, tells a similar story. He says that it looked to him as if Mrs. Samuel turned to the left slightly, while on the avenue, in order to avoid several pedestrians, and then could not swing back sharply enough to avoid the streetcar. She switched to the left, and headed toward a little knot of two or three people, who left the Commercial Street curb to cross to the east. He says it is his opinion that Miss Brown did not see the car. Mr. Parker states that the right fore-spring and the radiator seemed to strike the young woman, and that she fell on the pavement in a crumpled heap. At [as] to which wheels passed over her, he believes it was the two on the right side of the car, for he said the car seemed to rise bumpily that way. The injured girl was carried into the D. W. Hainer Drug Store, and emergency remedies were given her. An ambulance was called at once, and she was taken to St. Mary's Hospital. A telephone message telling of the accident was sent to the girl's home near Americus, and her mother came to Emporia at once in a car, but did not arrive until after her death. Miss Brown was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Steel Brown, who live four and one-half miles northwest of Americus. Besides her parents, she leaves two brothers. She was about 25 years old. She came to Emporia this morning, accompanied by her aunt, Mrs. John Edmiston, and her cousin, Mrs. Clifford Praunlinger. It is understood that these relatives were not with her at the time of the accident. The Samuel machine is a new one, and has only been driven a few months. Mrs. Samuel had spent the morning cleaning it for a ride. In the car with her at the time of the accident were her two small sons, and a neighbor's boy.
