Description	:	Minnie was born in Clay County, Kansas, on March 8, 1884. Her parents were Washington Moorehead and Livie Jellum. Livie was from Norway and was married to Washington in Clay County in March of 1883. Her grandmother Drusilla Moorehead lived in the same home, and two female cousins lived nearby and sometimes in the home. There was no school in Yelm at that time, so he bought his mother... Read More	Minnie was born in Clay County, Kansas, on March 8, 1884. Her parents were Washington Moorehead and Livie Jellum. Livie was from Norway and was married to Washington in Clay County in March of 1883. Her grandmother Drusilla Moorehead lived in the same home, and two female cousins lived nearby and sometimes in the home. The cousins were married in the 1880s, and in 1890 the Moorehead family moved to Thurston County, Washington. Wash sold the farm in Kansas and bought one near Yelm, in Washington. There was no school in Yelm at that time, so he bought his mother a house in Tacoma, and Minnie lived with her grandmother during the school year so she could attend school. Meanwhile, her father Wash worked to establish a school in Yelm, not only for Minnie but her brother, who was born soon after they moved to Yelm. Minnie’s grandmother Drusilla died in November of 1895, but the house stayed in the family for nine more years, and it is possible that Minnie continued to live in her grandmother’s house and attend school, with a guardian. On September 24, 1904, Minnie was married to George Lewis Rice. He father helped them get started in farming by sharing in the cost (and ownership) of a 50-acre farm near Yelm, in Section 30, Twp 17 N, Range 2 E. In December of 1906, Minnie gave birth to a daughter, Verna Bell Rice. But when Verna was not yet five, George passed away. In September 1911, three years after the death of her husband George, Minnie was married to Neils Chester Thompson. Like her mother, he was of Norwegian ancestry. They had three children: Edith (1915), Marjorie (1918), and Chester (1922). In 1928, her daughter Verna was married, and in 1935 her daughter Edith as well. In September of 1939, Minnie’s husband Chester died in Seattle. Minnie continued with the family farm, while still caring for her two younger children. Her mother Livie had been living in Tacoma when he died, and after his death she moved onto the farm to help Minnie. By 1945 Minnie’s children were grown, and she had moved to Tacoma, where she worked as a maid and lived at 504 S 76th. Around 1950 her mother Livie moved in with her. Livie died in 1954, a few days shy of her 90th birthday. Around 1959, Minnie moved back to Yelm. She died in 1971, in Seattle.
