Description	:	Minnie D. Tawes Mrs. Minnie D. Tawes, wife of Mr. A. Wellington Tawes, former president of the Bank of Crisfield, died at her home on Somerset Avenue here Friday of last week. She was 75 years of age. The daughter of the late William E. and Grace Sterling Daugherty, Mrs. Tawes was a graduate of the Crisfield High School and of Randolph-Macon woman's college in Lynchburg, Va., and served on its faculty for two years after graduation. she and her husband were married in 1914, and the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. Wellington Tawes, former president of the Bank of Crisfield, died at her home on Somerset Avenue here Friday of last week. She was 75 years of age. The daughter of the late William E. and Grace Sterling Daugherty, Mrs. Tawes was a graduate of the Crisfield High School and of Randolph-Macon woman's college in Lynchburg, Va., and served on its faculty for two years after graduation. she and her husband were married in 1914, and the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. A member of Immanuel Methodist church here, she taught Sunday School classes for many years, and was dedicated to church work. She was prominent in work of the Woman's Society of christian Service, having been a charter member and serving as first president of the local organization, and later, as president of the Salisbury District WSCS. also, she was treasurer of the Peninsula Conference WSCS for eight years. A charter member of Chesapeake Chapter No. 28, Order of the Eastern Star, and served as Worthy Matron and as Secretary in that organization, and at one time was Grand Chaplain of the Grand Lodge in Maryland. A very civic minded person, Mrs. Tawes for years was a member of the Senior Auxiliary Board of the McCready Hospital and held the position of treasurer for a long time. she also was the founder and first leader of a Girl Scout Troop here, and devoted much of her time to hospital and scout work. She had been an invalid for several years, suffering intense pain at times from the disease which cut short her activities, and bore the suffering with patience and fortitude. She was the sister-in-law of Governor J. Millard Tawes. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon in Immanuel Methodist Church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Don Hurst. Burial was in Asbury Methodist Church cemetery. Bearers were William S. Sterling, Robert L. Sterling, Eugene Sterling, Marvin H. Tawes, Jr., and Phillip W. Tawes. Surviving her are her husband, A. Wellington Tawes, two daughters, Mrs. I. T. Todd, Jr., and Miss Mary Kathryn Tawes; one son, A. Wellington Tawes, Jr.; two sisters, Miss M. Inez Daugherty of Crisfield and Mrs. William Carman of Landsdowne, Pa.; two brothers, R. Julian Daugherty of Round Bay, Md., and Edgar S. Daugherty of Elkins Park, Pa.; and six grandchildren.
