Croll died Tuesday, October 2, at the age of 97. Her death took place in a Brookings hospital, where she had been hospitalized for about two weeks. Funeral services will be conducted at the First Presbyterian Church of Miller Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock, and services will be in charge of Rev. James of Brookings. Burial will be in the G.A.R. Cemetery. The daughter of pioneer settlers of Hand County, Mrs. Croll came to Hand County when a young girl, and continued to make her home here until ten years ago. She and her husband built up a modern farm in Florence township, and for many years she was very active in extension work, and some years ago was recognized by the State Extension Service as Eminent Homemaker. She was very active in the Presbyterian Church of which she was a long time member. Mr. Croll’s death occurred in 1948 and for the past ten years, she had made her home in Brookings with her daughter, Geneva. Despite her advanced age she was extremely alert, and visited her sons in Miller as often as health permitted. Survivors include three sons, Leslie and Leland, Miller, and Dwight, Kansas city, and one daughter, Geneva Croll of Brookings. One daughter, Alice Stensland, preceded her in death. B. Croll, 97, whose death occurred October 2 in a Brookings hospital. The Rev. Lee James, Pastor of the United Presbyterian Church at Brookings, officiated at the service, which was held at the First United Presbyterian church of Miller. Burial was in the GAR Cemetery. Casket bearers were R. Milton Rich, C. Ray Johnson, Percy Williams, Russell Allen, Robert Haris and Roger Moncur. Mrs. Croll, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Andrews, was born June 22, 1876, in Marengo, Iowa. At the age of eight, in the spring of 1884, she came to Hand County with her parents, who homesteaded here. She taught school for several years, and on August 17, 1898 she was married to L. B. Croll at St. Lawrence. They farmed north of Miller for many years, until retirement in 1948 when she and her husband moved to Brookings. Actively involved with extension work, Mrs. Croll was named eminent Homemaker by the South Dakota Extension Service in 1933. She also took an active interest in church work. Surviving are one daughter, Geneva Croll, of Brookings, and three sons, Leslie and Leland Croll, Miller, and Dwight Croll, Overland Park, Kansas; three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, seven sisters and two brothers.
